Temperature and Weather

During peak hunting season, from March to October, temperatures will generally vary between 15°C to 36°C (64°F -89°F) during the day and -2°C to 15°C (28°F – 59°F) during the night.

 

Packing List

Daily Laundry Service. Bring 2 to 3 sets of clothes. Khaki, camo, olive or dark green are good colours for hunting clothes. A range of temperatures may be experienced in one day so dressing in layers is advisable. We stock a selection of African Great Safaris’ men’s and ladies’ long and short sleeve shirts.

 

Clothing

Hunting Gear and Guns

 

A .30 calibre is normally a good all-rounder for plains game and the minimum for hunting the big 5 is a .375.

 

• Guns / Bows – bring the weapon you are most familiar with

• Airline approved rifle case, soft gun bag and gun cleaning kit

• Export permits – when you leave your home country

• Gun licenses or proof of ownership for each gun you bring with

• Ammunition (40 to 60 rounds per calibre)

• Knife

• Binoculars

• Rangefinder if using a bow

• Camera with extra batteries, charger and extra memory cards

• Small flashlight

 

Documentation and Travel

• Passport – Passport application can take up to six months, passport needs 3 clean pages

• Cash and Credit Cards – notify your credit card company that you will be using it in Africa

• Medical Documents

• Air tickets & travel agent contact details

• Travel and trip insurance

• Address and contact details of your outfitter/PH in Africa

• Contact details of your next of kin

 

Other

• Prescription medication (remember doctor’s prescription letter if refill needed)

• Headache tablets, eye and ear drops, allergy tablets, stomach tablets, lip balm

• Sunblock and insect repellent

• Items of personal nature

• Toiletries

• Hairdryer / Shaver

• Diary

• Data stick to download pictures of hunt from PH

• Electric travel adapter (SA uses 220 – 240V, single phase, 50Hz, socket types D & M)
